Thanks to Rex for these notes:

  • For the next five years Robinson Crusoe lived in the same place and did mostly the same things, but he also built a canoe
  • The first canoe R.C. made was so big that he couldn't get it to the water because the canoe was too heavy and the water was far away
  • He decided he needed to make a canoe closer to the water
  • He made a canoe which he took to the creek by digging a trench 6ft wide 4ft deep and almost half a mile long
  • After he took his first boat trip he wanted to build a sail boat to go around the island
  • He put a mast and sail on his boat so he could sail around the island
  • He stored many items on his boat including his gun
  • He used his umbrella when sailing to keep out of the sun
  • R.C. loaded his boat with food
  • For some time after he made his boat he stayed near shore
  • On November sixth on his sixth year he went out on a voyage
  • R.C. put his anchor down near shore on a different part of the island
  • He went ashore with his gun and went to the top of a hill to look around
  • From the hill R.C. saw strong currents and winds
  • To be safe R.C. decided to wait a couple of days before leaving
  • When he got on his boat to leave, the current took him further away from the island than he wanted
  • Crusoe is out in the sea with no wind to help guide him back
  • R.C. gets caught in a circular current which spins him back into the direction he wants to go
  • When R.C. got back to land he dropped on his knees and thanked God for bringing him back to the island safely
  • After that R.C. secured his boat in a safe place and grabbed his gun and umbrella and headed home by foot
  • When he got home R.C. fell asleep
  • He then heard someone calling his name but finally found out it was Poll and they were happy to see each other
